Product details

Background & context

For centuries armies lived off the land, and in practice that meant off the farmers' livestock. Requisitioned cows, pigs and chickens turn up in every other campaign account, from the mercenary armies of the early modern period to the supply columns of the Second World War. On the table this very detail helps tell the story: a farm with livestock looks lived in, an empty farm looks cleared out. Put the two side by side and your narrative comes for free.

On the tabletop

These two plastic frames provide 1:56 scale farm animals, from four cows and two donkeys through sheep, pigs and piglets to chickens, ducks, geese, cats and two dogs. They populate farms, pastures and village streets in one go. A herd makes a good objective that one side wants to drive off and the other wants to protect. Set the two dogs up as guard dogs at a farm.
