Product details

Background & context

In the Second World War, field telephones and wire lines linked command posts, artillery and observers, and signal troops laid the cable from large drums. Engineers in every army built bridges, roadblocks and positions and needed timber, wire and tools in great quantities for the job. Barbed wire and beams were part of daily life for troops on every front.

On the tabletop

Put the cable drums beside a command post or along a road to suggest a field telephone line. The beams and wire coils suit a bridge under construction, a position being fortified or a depot behind the lines. In a scenario you can mark the pieces as materiel that engineers have to recover or secure. The small items barely get in the way of movement and can be spread around freely.
