Background & context

Das Neue Reich war Ägyptens Zeit als Großmacht: Thutmosis III. und seine Nachfolger führten ihre Heere durch Kanaan bis an den Euphrat, Ramses II. focht bei Kadesch gegen die Hethiter. Der Speer war dabei kurz und wurde geworfen, danach entschied das sichelförmige Khopesh den Nahkampf. Ab der Zeit Echnatons trugen die Fußsoldaten gesteppte Bänderrüstung, wie sie auch im Grab des Tutanchamun abgebildet ist. Die großen Schilde stellte man abends zu einer Palisade um das Lager zusammen.

On the tabletop

The 24 spearmen let you field a line of Egyptian New Kingdom infantry. The short spear was mainly thrown, after which the men fought on with the khopesh sickle-sword, and the large shield was meant for fighting in dense formation. In Hail Caesar they therefore belong in the closed front of your army. Banded fabric armour and headcloths show the army of the Nineteenth Dynasty under Ramesses II.
