Background & context

Nubien war für Ägypten Nachbar, Goldlieferant, Gegner und Rekrutierungsgebiet zugleich. Die Bogenschützen von Kerma zwangen das Mittlere Reich zu einer ganzen Kette von Festungen am zweiten Katarakt, die Medjay wiederum dienten später als Truppe und Grenzpolizei der Pharaonen. Im Neuen Reich sank Nubien zur Provinz ab, im ersten Jahrtausend v. Chr. drehte sich das Verhältnis dann um: Kuschitische Könige aus dem Süden herrschten als 25. Dynastie über ganz Ägypten.

On the tabletop

For Egypt, Nubian archers were both enemies and recruits. In Hail Caesar you field the eight figures as archers in an Egyptian army or use them to build an independent Nubian force. The archers of Kerma forced the Middle Kingdom to build a chain of fortresses at the Second Cataract, and later the Medjay served the pharaohs as troops. In a game they shoot at the enemy before your close fighters strike.
