Background & context

Nubien und Libyen waren für Ägypten Dauerbaustellen: im Süden die kuschitischen Reiche jenseits des ersten Katarakts, im Westen die Stämme der Wüstenränder. Beide lieferten dem Pharao Söldner und beide fielen ins Niltal ein, sobald Ägypten schwach war - nubische Bogenschützen gehörten zu den gefragtesten Truppen der Bronzezeit. Wie ihre eigenen Feldzeichen aussahen, ist nicht überliefert; die Gau-Standarten der ägyptischen Provinzen sind die nächstliegende Vorlage.

On the tabletop

Four command figures lead the Nubian and Libyan tribes of the Bronze Age in Hail Caesar, whether as an army of their own or as mercenaries in Pharaoh's host. A Libyan and a Nubian standard bearer each carry a drum on their back, and if you cut off the top of the standard you get a musician whose staff becomes a spear. Whether these tribes carried standards at all is not recorded, so the designs follow Egyptian nome standards.
