Background & context

Um 1550 v. Chr. vertrieb Ahmose die Hyksos aus dem Delta und legte damit den Grundstein für das Neue Reich. Die Pharaonen der 18. Dynastie übernahmen von ihren früheren Gegnern Streitwagen und Kompositbogen und formten daraus das schlagkräftigste Heer des östlichen Mittelmeerraums. Thutmosis III. führte es bei Megiddo gegen eine kanaanäische Koalition und dehnte Ägyptens Einfluss bis an den Euphrat aus. Die Fußtruppen dieser Feldzüge zogen unter den Standarten ihrer Divisionen ins Feld, jede davon nach einem Gott benannt.

On the tabletop

These four command figures on foot lead your Egyptians of the early 18th Dynasty in Hail Caesar and turn spearmen and archers into a led formation. Historically the foot troops fought in divisions each named after a god. Fitting scenarios are the expulsion of the Hyksos around 1550 BC or Megiddo, where Thutmose III defeated a Canaanite coalition. You can round out the army with chariots, which Egypt had taken over from the Hyksos.
