    Product details

    Background & context

Slingers were an important auxiliary troop in early Bronze Age armies. As simple levy soldiers, lightly clad in kilts, tunics, or long robes, they were deployed in both regular and nomadic armies of Mesopotamia and the Near East. Equipped with a sling and dagger, these warriors could be utilized in almost all armies from the early to the late Bronze Age, and even beyond into the Iron Age. They were found in Sumerian, Akkadian, Syrian, and many other city-state armies.

    On the tabletop

Barefoot, in a kilt and armed only with sling and dagger, these eight figures represent the simplest levy of a Sumerian city-state around 2500 BC. In Hail Caesar they form a skirmish screen in front of your spearmen, pelt the enemy as it approaches and pull back before close combat. You can also use them to cover the flanks of your donkey-drawn battle cars. Because this type of troop barely changed, they remain usable into the Assyrian period.
