    Product details

    Background & context

The highlanders of the Zagros and Taurus were a persistent problem for the Mesopotamian city states. The mountains supplied metal, timber and mercenaries, but also raids on caravans and border towns. Empires such as Akkad, Ur and later Assyria regularly campaigned into the mountains and yet never achieved lasting peace there. The sling suited this terrain well, because the ammunition literally lay by the wayside.

    On the tabletop

With early and later versions in the same pack, these eight slingers suit both early and later hill tribes from the Zagros and Taurus. In Hail Caesar they shoot at closed formations from a distance and pull back before hand-to-hand fighting begins. Their opponents are the kingdoms of the plain, from Akkad and Ur to Assyria, which marched into the mountains again and again. In the hills the ammunition lay by the roadside, which is why the sling was so widespread there.
