Background & context

Rom unterhielt als erste antike Macht einen organisierten Sanitätsdienst. In den Kastellen standen Valetudinaria, eigene Lazarettbauten, und die Legionen führten Medici mit, die Pfeilspitzen zogen, Brüche schienten und Wunden mit Wein und Essig auswuschen. Was sie an Hygiene und Instrumentenkunde beherrschten, war der Zeit weit voraus. Eine Amputation ohne Betäubung blieb trotzdem das, was sie war.

On the tabletop

The medicus with a legionary and a wounded comrade serves you in Hail Caesar as an objective, a casualty marker or a scene behind your Roman line. Rome maintained an organised medical service with dedicated hospital buildings in its forts, and the legions brought doctors who pulled out arrowheads and set broken bones. Baskets and tools are included as well. All parts are metal.
