Background & context

Eine römische Centurie wurde über Geräusch und Sichtzeichen gesteuert: Der Cornicen setzte die Befehle des Centurio in Hornstöße um, das Vexillum zeigte allen, wo die Einheit gerade steht. Der Rebstock des Centurio war Dienstabzeichen und Disziplinarwerkzeug in einem, und geschwungen wurde er reichlich. Standartenträger trugen Fell über dem Helm und oft eine versilberte Gesichtsmaske, was ihnen im Getümmel eine bedrohliche Silhouette gab. Diese drei Rollen machen aus einer Reihe Legionäre einen Verband.

On the tabletop

A centurion, cornicen and vexillarius lead an early Imperial legionary unit in Hail Caesar and add variety when you field several units from the plastic set. The cornicen turned the centurion's orders into horn calls, while the vexillum showed everyone where the unit stood. The centurion carries his vine staff of office under his arm, and the vexillarius wears a silvered face mask. All three figures are metal.
