    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The legionaries of the early Roman Empire - from Augustus until the crisis of the 3rd century - were considered the most powerful infantry in the ancient world. Clad in lorica segmentata, equipped with the large rectangular scutum and the short gladius, they were present on every battlefield from Britannia to Mesopotamia. The kneeling combat stance shows legionaries in a firing position using slings or pilums - a common tactical image in the Roman battle line.

    Early Imperial Romans: Kneeling Battleline is used in Hail Caesar as a legionary unit for Early Imperial Roman forces and Roman expansion. In the game, it forms a disciplined core line, holding ground and engaging in close combat in an ordered formation.
