Background & context

Die berittenen Auxiliareinheiten Roms waren in Turmae von rund 30 Reitern gegliedert, je 16 davon bildeten eine Ala. An der Spitze einer Turma stand der Decurio, neben ihm ritten der Vexillifer mit dem Feldzeichen und ein Cornicen, dessen Horn Befehle über den Lärm der Schlacht trug. Rekrutiert wurden diese Reiter in den Provinzen - Bataver, Thraker, Gallier -, und ihre Feldzeichen wurden im Lager wie Heiligtümer behandelt.

On the tabletop

A decurion, vexillifer and horn blower take their place at the head of your early Imperial auxiliary cavalry in Hail Caesar. All three carry shield and javelin quiver like the other riders. A turma numbered around 30 men under a decurion, and several formed an ala. These riders were recruited in the provinces, for example among Batavians, Thracians and Gauls, so you can paint the unit according to its origin. The figures are metal.
