    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    In early Bronze Age Mesopotamia (c. 2900-2350 BC), the city-states of Sumer, Akkad, and Elam were constantly rivalrous powers. The Household Axemen represented the bodyguard of the city-kings - well-armed and equipped elite troops compared to the common levy infantry. Their distinctive battle-axe was one of the preferred melee weapons of these early high cultures and is depicted on numerous stelae and reliefs of the period. These figures can also be used as household troops of the early Anatolian uplands or the city-states of the Arabian coast.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    Early Household Axemen are used in Hail Caesar as mobile close combat or retinue infantry for Mesopotamian, Syrian or Elamite Bronze Age city-state and palace armies. In the game, the unit occupies terrain, supports the main line, and attacks vulnerable targets, without taking on the role of a rigid spear or hoplite formation. They work best in conjunction with ranged units, chariots or heavier troops, so that their mobility and close combat pressure are not isolated and wasted.
