    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The early highlanders of the Zagros and Taurus Mountains - Gutians, Lullubians, Turukkaeans, and early Hurrians - lived in constant tension with the urbanized city-states of Mesopotamia. As warlike mountain peoples, they repeatedly invaded the lowlands and were considered unpredictable adversaries of the Sumerian and Akkadian armies. It was the Gutians who brought down the Akkadian Empire at the end of the Early Bronze Age. These Axemen represent the heavily armed melee warriors of these highland tribes and can be used for Gutian, Lullubian, early Hurrian, and early Elamite forces.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    Early Highlander Axemen are used in Hail Caesar as mobile close combat or follower infantry for Mesopotamian, Syrian or Elamite Bronze Age city-state and palace armies. In the game, the unit occupies terrain, supports the main line and attacks vulnerable targets, without taking on the role of a rigid spear or hoplite formation. They work best in conjunction with ranged fighters, chariots or heavier troops, so that mobility and close combat pressure do not fizzle out in isolation.
