    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    The axe-wielding retainers of early Egypt belonged to the pharaoh's personal guard and were known as Shemsu. They served as professional soldiers (Ahauty) and elite shock troops (Menfat) in the armies of the Old and Middle Kingdoms. Unlike the archers, who weakened the enemy from a distance, the axemen were responsible for close combat, storming into enemy ranks with their heavy axes. These figures are also suitable for armies of the First Intermediate Period and the early Second Intermediate Period up to the native Egyptian 16th Dynasty.

    Einsatz im Spiel

    Early Egyptian Retainer Axemen are used in Hail Caesar as professional close combat and retinue infantry for Egyptian armies of the Old and Middle Kingdoms. In the game, they complement spear lines and archers with determined close combat pressure. The unit is particularly suitable for attacking already weakened enemies or holding important terrain features.
