Background & context

Das Alte und das Mittlere Reich führten Krieg vor allem gegen Nubien im Süden und gegen die Beduinenstämme des Sinai. Ihre Heere waren Aufgebote aus den Gauen, geführt von Beamten und Adligen, die nebenher Bauherren und Verwalter waren. Bogenschützen und Speerträger in dichten Reihen machten den Großteil aus, Streitwagen kamen erst mit den Hyksos ins Land. Der Standartenträger war dabei mehr als Zierrat: An seinem Feldzeichen hing die Ordnung der ganzen Abteilung.

On the tabletop

Two commanders and two standard bearers lead your Egyptians of the Old and Middle Kingdoms in Hail Caesar. The commanders give orders to your divisions, while the standard bearers single out your core regiments of archers and spearmen. Historically a unit's order depended on its standard. The figures suit campaigns against Nubia in the south or the Bedouin of Sinai, before chariots reached Egypt. All four are metal.
