    Product details

    Background & context

The ax-wielding warriors of the Old and Middle Kingdoms of Egypt were among the most feared close-combat fighters of the Bronze Age. As professional soldiers, also known as Menfat or Ahauty, they served the pharaoh and led the decisive close-quarters combat after the archers had weakened the enemy lines. The figures are suitable for Egyptian armies of the First Intermediate Period as well as the early Second Intermediate Period up to the native 16th Dynasty of Upper Egypt.

    On the tabletop

Axe or mace, a shield and hardly any armour: that is how the foot soldiers of the Old and Middle Kingdoms went to war. These eight figures give your Egyptian army in Hail Caesar the close fighters who move up after your archers have shot at the enemy. Troops like these reunited the country under Mentuhotep II around 2055 BC and conducted sieges, as the tomb paintings at Beni Hasan show. They suit scenarios built around storming a fortress.
