Product details

Background & context

The archers of the early New Kingdom period formed a central part of the Egyptian armed forces. During the 17th and 18th Dynasties, such units fought under pharaohs like Ahmose I.

On the tabletop

In the Old and Middle Kingdoms, archers were the missile arm of an army that still fought without chariots. These eight figures shoot with the simple self bow, which the composite bow only replaced later. In Hail Caesar you place them beside or ahead of your spearmen and axemen and wear the enemy down before the lines meet. The wooden soldier models from the tomb of Mesehti at Asyut, around 2000 BC, show how such a troop looked when drawn up in ranks.
