    Product details

    Background & context

    On the tabletop

The Stele of the Vultures from Lagash shows Sumerian spearmen in a block eight men wide and six ranks deep, and these eight metal figures are modelled on that image. The front rank may have carried only an axe and a large shield instead of a spear, but that depends on how the stele is read. In Hail Caesar you form them into the close spear block with which your Sumerian city-states hold their line. Kilts of wool, felt or leather match the period.
