Background & context

The Early Bronze Age in Mesopotamia (ca. 3000-2000 BC) was characterized by rival city-states such as Ur, Lagash, and Uruk, as well as the rise of the Akkadian Empire under Sargon the Great. Leaders of this era went into battle with small but professional armies, leading their warriors in formation battles. The figures represent historical rulers such as Meskalamdug of Ur, Eannatum of Lagash, or Lugal-zage-si of Uruk, and are equally suitable as kings of Mari or tribal chiefs of the early highlanders. The set from Cutting Edge Miniatures covers all important armies of early Mesopotamia.

On the tabletop

Eight command figures on foot cover the commanders of several Early Bronze Age Mesopotamian armies in Hail Caesar: Sumerian, Early Syrian, Elamite, Early Akkadian or highland forces. You can use them as Sargon of Akkad, Eannatum of Lagash, Lugal-zage-si of Uruk, a king of Mari or Kish, or Annubanini of the Lullubi. Rulers of this era took the field in person, and the Stele of the Vultures records one such victory of Eannatum.
