Background & context

Dakien lag nördlich der Donau im heutigen Rumänien und war für Rom lange ein unbequemer Nachbar mit reichen Goldminen. Decebalus schlug 86 n. Chr. eine römische Armee und handelte Kaiser Domitian sogar Zahlungen ab. Trajan machte damit Schluss: Nach zwei Feldzügen fiel 106 n. Chr. die Bergfestung Sarmizegetusa, Decebalus nahm sich das Leben, und das erbeutete Gold finanzierte Trajans Bauprogramm in Rom.

On the tabletop

King Decebalus in armour with a heavy shield and his shaman form the command pair of your Dacian army in Hail Caesar. Place Decebalus at the head as commander-in-chief, while the shaman accompanies him on the command base or serves as a scenario figure. Scenarios include the Dacian victory over a Roman army in AD 86 and Trajan's campaigns up to the fall of Sarmizegetusa in AD 106. Both figures are metal.
