Background & context

Zwei Kriege brauchte Trajan, um Dakien 106 n. Chr. zu unterwerfen, und die Beute daraus finanzierte halb Rom. Was die Legionäre dort erlebten, steht in Stein auf der Trajanssäule: Falx-Träger, die Schilde spalten, und Legionäre, die daraufhin mit Armschienen und quer verstärkten Helmen antreten. Es ist eine der wenigen Stellen, an denen Rom seine Ausrüstung wegen eines einzelnen Gegners umbaute. König Decebalus nahm sich am Ende selbst das Leben.

On the tabletop

The falx, a two-handed war scythe, made the Dacians one of Rome's most dangerous enemies. In Hail Caesar the 42 figures give you several units of close-combat infantry meant to smash shields, and with them most of a Dacian army. The Dacians fought mainly on foot and allied themselves with Sarmatian horsemen, who complement your infantry. Trajan's legions are the opponents, whose arm guards and reinforced helmets were an answer to this weapon.
