Background & context

Gallien war kein Reich, sondern ein Flickenteppich aus Stämmen: Arverner, Häduer, Senonen, die sich untereinander genauso bekämpften wie später Rom. Ihre Heere kamen aus dem Stand, freie Männer brachten mit, was sie besaßen, vom bemalten Langschild bis zum geerbten Schwert. Daher rührt das uneinheitliche Bild einer Warband, in der kaum zwei Krieger gleich ausgerüstet sind. Caesar brauchte acht Jahre, um diesen Flickenteppich zu unterwerfen.

On the tabletop

This single sprue gives you ten Celtic warriors with a mix of weapons. In Hail Caesar you use it to bring a warband up to strength or to replace losses in an existing unit. Because the weapons on the sprue are mixed, you can arm the men differently, just as fits a tribal levy in which every man provided his own arms. Caesar's legions, who needed eight years to subdue Gaul, make the obvious opponents.
