Background & context

Als Caesar 55 v. Chr. in Britannien landete, waren Streitwagen auf dem Festland längst aus der Mode - auf der Insel dagegen bestimmten sie noch das Gefecht. Der Lenker fuhr an die feindliche Linie, der Krieger warf seine Speere, sprang ab, kämpfte zu Fuß und ließ sich wieder aufnehmen. Caesar beschreibt staunend, wie Fahrer im Galopp auf der Deichsel balancierten. Ein Jahrhundert später führte Boudica die Icener gegen Rom, und noch bei Mons Graupius 83 n. Chr. standen kaledonische Wagen im Feld.

On the tabletop

Three chariots carry your British warriors quickly up to the enemy line. There the fighter hurls his javelins, jumps down and fights on foot, while the driver stands ready to pick him up again. Besides six drivers and eight armoured fighters, three Boudicca figures and three druids are included, so you can lead a chariot with the queen of the Iceni against Rome. Severed heads, ribbons and javelin cases decorate the vehicles.
