Background & context

Eine Kohorte der späten Republik hing an wenigen Männern: dem Centurio mit Querkamm, dem Signifer, der das Feldzeichen trug, und dem Cornicen, dessen Horn Befehle über den Lärm brachte. Ging das Signum verloren, verlor die Einheit ihren Halt - deshalb kämpfte man darum bis zuletzt. Caesar beschreibt in seinen Kommentaren mehrfach, wie einzelne Standartenträger einen stockenden Angriff wieder in Gang brachten.

On the tabletop

This plastic frame with four command models adds to your late Republican legions in Hail Caesar when another cohort still needs an officer and standard. A cohort was typically led by a centurion, a signifer carrying the standard and a cornicen with his horn. If the signum was lost the unit lost its anchor, and Caesar describes in his commentaries how standard bearers got stalled attacks moving again. On the table you place the group at the front of the cohort.
