Background & context

Caesar kam 58 v. Chr. als Statthalter nach Gallien mit vier Legionen und Schulden, die nur ein Krieg tilgen konnte. Die Helvetier lieferten den Vorwand, die Nervier 57 v. Chr. an der Sambre beinahe die Katastrophe. Nach zwei Übersetzungen nach Britannien und dem Massaker an Eburonen und Usipetern erhob sich Gallien 52 v. Chr. unter Vercingetorix. Gergovia hielt, Alesia fiel: Caesar schloss die Stadt mit einem doppelten Belagerungsring ein und schlug das Entsatzheer draußen und die Belagerten drinnen. Fünf Jahre später stand er vor Rom.

On the tabletop

Die Rechnung dieser Box ist einfach: 80 gallische Krieger gegen 48 Legionäre Caesars, viele Köpfe gegen kleinere Einheiten. Die Kelten stellst du in breiten Haufen auf, die Römer in schmaleren Blöcken, dann rücken beide Linien aufeinander zu. Wie viel eine Einheit schon eingesteckt hat, zeigen die Verlustmarker aus Karton, Referenzblatt und zwölf Würfel liegen für die Nahkämpfe bereit. Die Regeln stehen in der Gamer's Edition von Hail Caesar, das Einführungsheft führt in die Gallischen Kriege ein, die Schilddecals geben beiden Seiten ihre Farben. Reiterei gehört nicht zum Inhalt, mit ihr geht der Ausbau weiter.
