    Product details

    Background & context

The SM.79 Sparviero was one of the most versatile aircraft of the Italian Air Force in World War II, built in numbers that made it the most produced Italian military aircraft of that era. Its range of missions extended from classic horizontal bomber attacks and reconnaissance flights to torpedo attacks on enemy naval forces - a versatility few contemporary designs achieved. The Regia Aeronautica deployed it in almost all theaters of war in which Italy was involved. Its three-engine layout and characteristic fuselage shape made it an unmistakable sight in Italian air warfare.

    On the tabletop

Three SM.79 Sparvieros put an Italian bomber formation on the table in Blood Red Skies, with two aircraft cards for the Sparviero and the SM.79 III. The Torpedo Shackles equipment card lets them fly as torpedo bombers against Allied convoys in the Mediterranean, and the Interlocking Fire doctrine represents their combined defensive fire. The SM.79 was known as fast, reliable and well armed. Bases with extensions, tokens and decals are included, so you can take off straight away.
