Background & context

The Macchi C.200 Saetta was considered the most robust fighter aircraft employed by the Regia Aeronautica in the early stages of the war. It represented a significant technological leap forward for the Italian Air Force compared to its predecessor models. Despite a relatively low total production number - due to manufacturing bottlenecks and competing industrial priorities - the Saetta saw service on numerous fronts. It embodies both the capabilities and the simultaneous limitations of Italian arms production during those years.

On the tabletop

The Macchi C.200 Saetta was the hardest-worked front-line fighter of the Italian air force, rugged and almost unbeatable in a turn. In Blood Red Skies six Tight Turn traits and the Aggressive Tactics doctrine give you exactly that strength, while one Poor Quality trait shows its limits. Draw opponents over Malta and the desert into tight turns instead of chasing them for speed. It remained at the front until the armistice of 1943.
