Product details

Background & context

The light cavalry of the French army of the early 19th century was among the most versatile troop types of its time. Chasseurs à Cheval, Hussars, and Lancers performed reconnaissance tasks, secured flanks, and disrupted enemy supply lines. The Lancers, in particular, were feared adversaries in close combat due to their long thrusting weapons. The horse artillery complemented these units by being able to keep pace with the cavalry and fire upon enemy positions before the actual assault began.

On the tabletop

With 21 Chasseurs à Cheval, 18 hussars and 21 lancers you field a French light cavalry brigade of three regiments in 13.5 mm Black Powder games, accompanied by three horse artillery 6-pounders with crew. Chasseurs and hussars handle outpost duty and scouting. You send the lancers against infantry that has fallen into disorder, as at Quatre Bras. The battery follows the horsemen and unlimbers wherever you need firepower.
