Product details

Background & context

France's heavy cavalry was considered one of Europe's most effective branches of arms during the Napoleonic era. Cuirassiers and carabiniers wore distinctive steel cuirasses and helmets, giving them an imposing, intimidating appearance on the battlefield. Dragoons served as versatile horsemen, balancing heavy shock action with tactical flexibility. Together, these units formed the armored backbone of the French army in the 1815 campaign.

On the tabletop

Cuirassiers, carabiniers and dragoons were France's heavy strike force, and this box lets you field a brigade of these three regiments in 13.5 mm Black Powder games: four, three and three bases. A horse artillery battery with three 6-pounders completes it. Keep the brigade behind your line until an enemy formation begins to waver. Do not send it against squares without support; Milhaud's cuirassiers wore themselves out that way at Waterloo. Eagle standards are included as a build option.
