Background & context

Im Amerikanischen Unabhängigkeitskrieg spielte Artillerie eine kleinere Rolle als später in den napoleonischen Kriegen - die Wege waren schlecht, Geschütze knapp und teuer. Schwere Kaliber kamen deshalb vor allem bei Belagerungen zum Tragen: rund um Boston, vor Charleston und entscheidend 1781 vor Yorktown, wo französische und amerikanische Batterien die britischen Werke in zwei Wochen zusammenschossen.

On the tabletop

Heavy guns in the American War of Independence mattered mainly in sieges and fixed positions. The three pieces with crew suit both the British and the Continental Army in 13.5 mm Black Powder games. In an earthwork or behind your line they batter walls and densely packed infantry, and in a coastal battery they keep enemy ships at a distance. The siege of Yorktown in 1781 makes a fitting scenario.
