Background & context

When Napoleon's expansionist policies engulfed the Iberian Peninsula, Great Britain dispatched troops to halt the French advance. British infantry formed the backbone of these forces, fighting a years-long, grueling campaign through inhospitable terrain against experienced French units. Their distinctive red coats and cylindrical stovepipe shakos made them one of the most recognizable sights of the Napoleonic Wars. In the end, the persistence of this infantry drove the enemy back across the Pyrenees.

On the tabletop

Two battalions of British redcoats in stovepipe shakos bring the Peninsular War to your Epic Battles army. Each battalion consists of four stands including a command stand, and the flag sheet provides the colours. In Black Powder Epic Battles you deploy them in line against French columns and answer with volleys, as Wellesley's infantry did in Spain and Portugal. Further battalions turn them into a brigade.
