Product details

Background & context

The American Civil War is one of the most momentous armed conflicts of the 19th century and presented a severe test for the young nation. In the summer of 1863, the main armies of both sides clashed in Pennsylvania in a multi-day engagement that went down in history as the bloodiest encounter of the entire war. The Confederate advance into the North failed due to the determination of the Union defenders, and the subsequent retreat marked a strategic turning point from which the Southern army never fully recovered. This moment is still considered a crossroads in the struggle for the future of the United States.

On the tabletop

For Gettysburg both armies are equally strong: Union and Confederacy each get eight infantry regiments, one Zouave and one sharpshooter regiment, one mounted and one dismounted cavalry regiment, eight guns and eight mounted commanders. From the regiments you form brigades, which the commanders lead. The Union is cast in blue and the Confederacy in grey, so the sides stay distinguishable even unpainted. The farm building becomes a strongpoint, and the infantry seeks cover behind the snake-rail fences. Play follows the A5 Black Powder rulebook with the 36-page supplement and six dice.
