Description

Terrain for a landing on the Atlantic Wall: two coastal bunkers, a flak bunker and two sets of accessories with barbed wire and hedgehogs. Together they make a beach position the attacker has to take piece by piece.

Background & context

From 1942 the German command had the Atlantic Wall built along the coast from Norway to the Bay of Biscay. Its bunkers followed standard plans, the Regelbauten, and were often sited to sweep the beach from the flank. Wire, stakes and steel obstacles guarded the likely landing zones in front. On 6 June 1944 Allied troops in Normandy had to take exactly such positions, because bombing and naval gunfire had left many of them intact.

On the tabletop

The two R612/R680 bunkers and the R677 form the line your defender has to hold in Bolt Action. Since all three have removable roofs and opening rear doors, you can place guns and crews inside. In front you lay out the 4 m of barbed wire and the hedgehogs from both accessory sets as obstacles, while sandbags, crates and drums fill the ground behind. The attacker comes off the beach and must get through the obstacles before assault troops can reach the doorways. The result is a full landing scenario for Normandy in 1944.
