    Product details

    Background & context

In the Babylonian realm, the royal chariot was far more than a weapon of war - it was a symbol of divine legitimation and royal power. Babylon, located in the heart of Mesopotamia, rivaled Assyria for centuries and shaped the political history of the Ancient Near East. The chariot remained a prestigious means of command during this era, especially for depictions of rulers and elites on the battlefield. On the tabletop, such a chariot makes an eye-catching centerpiece for a Bronze Age or ancient Near Eastern army.

    On the tabletop

As a general's chariot, this metal model belongs at the centre of your Babylonian army in Hail Caesar. For the king the chariot was more than a vehicle: from it he presented himself as a warlord appointed by the gods. It fits the Neo-Babylonian empire in particular, founded by Nabopolassar after the fall of Nineveh in 612 BC and extended by Nebuchadnezzar as far as the Levant. Opponents are the Assyrians or, at the end, the Persians of Cyrus.
