Background & context

Nach 410 zahlte in Britannien niemand mehr Sold. Die Städte schrumpften, die staatlichen Waffenfabriken des Reiches lieferten nicht mehr, und die Verteidigung fiel an lokale Machthaber zurück. Wer in diesen Jahrzehnten ins Feld zog, trug selten mehr als Schild und Speer. Aus diesen Verhältnissen wuchs über Generationen jene Überlieferung, die später den Namen Artus tragen sollte.

On the tabletop

Without armour, these eight Romano-British foot soldiers are more agile than the armoured troops of their army. In Hail Caesar you use them for skirmishing and short raids: strike, fall back and then look for an exposed flank to shake the enemy's morale. They represent Britain after 410, when no more pay arrived and defence fell to local rulers. It was from this period that the tradition of Arthur later grew.
