Background & context

After 410 Rome withdrew its last troops from the island, but the Roman way of fighting remained. British warlords maintained mounted troops on the late Roman model, giving them a weapon against Saxon foot warriors that the Saxons did not have. Gildas reports a victory at Mons Badonicus around 500 that halted Saxon expansion for decades - the core from which the Arthur of legend later grew. Whether a commander of that name ever lived, nobody knows; his horsemen are on your gaming table all the same.

On the tabletop

Heavily armoured, these four Romano-British riders charge in Hail Caesar into a flank or an open gap in the enemy line, where their attack hits hardest. After the Romans left in 410, British warlords kept such horsemen on the late Roman model and so had a weapon the Saxon foot warriors lacked. Together with pack A you get eight different riders. Gildas reports a victory at Mons Badonicus around 500, from which the Arthurian legend later grew.
