Description

Background & context

Australia sent combat troops to South Vietnam from 1965, and from 1966 the 1st Australian Task Force operated from its base at Nui Dat in Phuoc Tuy province. New Zealand provided artillery and, from 1967, infantry companies that were integrated into Australian battalions, hence the name ANZAC battalion. The troops relied on quiet patrolling and ambushes in the bush. In August 1966 an Australian company held out at Long Tan against a far larger enemy force.

On the tabletop

The 40 mm base sets the platoon commander apart from the other figures on 25 mm, keeping the command easy to spot on the table. Prone and kneeling poses suit fights in thick scrub, where patrols often met the enemy at close range. Add rifle sections and the APC riders from the same range. Superglue is all you need to assemble the resin parts.
