Hintergrund & Einordnung

The ancient Iberians were one of the most impressive peoples of the Iberian Peninsula and among Rome's most persistent adversaries during its republican expansion. Their armored warriors - the so-called Scutarii - wore chainmail or breastplates and were considered particularly dangerous close-quarters fighters. As valuable mercenaries, they also fought in the service of Carthage, for example, in the Punic Wars under Hannibal. Their characteristic weaponry, including the Falcata sword and the pilum, made them a versatile and formidable fighting force. The ornate equipment with decorated belts, helmets, and shields reflects the great pride and martial culture of the Iberian nobility.

Einsatz im Spiel

Ancient Iberian Armoured Warriors are used in Hail Caesar and Clash of Spears as mobile close combat or retinue infantry for Iberian and West Mediterranean forces. In the game, the unit occupies terrain, supports the main line, and attacks vulnerable targets, without taking on the role of a rigid spear or hoplite formation. They work best in conjunction with ranged fighters, chariots, or heavier troops, so that their mobility and close combat pressure are not wasted in isolation.
