Background & context

The Gallic cavalry was among the most powerful mounted units in the ancient world. As armored noble riders, they formed the elite of Gallic tribal armies and were renowned for their bravery and daring. During the Punic Wars, Gallic horsemen served as valuable mercenaries in Carthaginian service-including in Hannibal's army, where they played a crucial role in the annihilation of Roman legions. At the same time, they fought against Caesar's legions in the Gallic Wars and also appeared as allies of Roman armies in the fight against Germanic tribes. The armored noble riders depicted in this set represent the wealthy warrior aristocracy of Gallic society.

On the tabletop

The twelve armoured riders represent the Gallic nobility, the elite of a Gallic army. With spear and javelin they ride against the flanks, with drawn swords they enter melee, and horns and standards lead the unit. You field them in Gallic armies against Rome, Carthage or the Successors, as mercenaries in Hannibal's army, or as auxiliaries of Caesar and the early Empire against the Germanic tribes.
