Background & context

In Celtic societies, women did not stand on the sidelines: Boudicca led the revolt of the Iceni against Rome, and Cartimandua ruled the Brigantes as queen in her own right. Ancient authors, who otherwise had little good to say about the Celts, describe women who went into battle alongside the men and took part in raids. For the gaming table this simply means that mixed units are historically justified.

On the tabletop

In Hail Caesar you either add these eight Celtic women warriors to existing warrior units so that not every figure looks alike, or you field a unit made up only of women. Both fit the history: Boudicca stood at the head of the Iceni revolt against Rome, Cartimandua ruled the Brigantes as queen, and ancient accounts mention women on raids. That makes them suitable for British as well as Gallic armies.
