    Background & context

    Druiden waren bei den Kelten nicht nur Priester, sondern auch Richter, Chronisten und Lehrer, ein Stand, der quer über die Stammesgrenzen hinweg Gewicht hatte. Ihre Ausbildung dauerte angeblich zwanzig Jahre und lief ohne Schrift ab, weshalb uns fast nur römische Berichte über sie bleiben. Für Rom waren sie der Kitt des keltischen Widerstands und damit ein Ziel: 61 n. Chr. ließ Suetonius Paulinus ihr Zentrum auf Anglesey niederbrennen.

    On the tabletop

    Four druids, each a different model, give your Celtic army in Hail Caesar the men who put heart into its warriors. Place them with your chieftains on the command base or use them as scenario figures, for example to defend a sacred site. Druids were priests, judges and teachers in one, and for Rome the glue of Celtic resistance. In AD 61 the Romans under Suetonius Paulinus destroyed their sanctuary on Anglesey, a scenario for your Celts.
