Product details

Background & context

The tribes of ancient Britons were among the most colorful and at the same time most fearsome warriors of antiquity. With their characteristic chalked hair, long moustaches, and woad war paint, they confronted the Roman invaders - led by tribal chiefs and inspired by the mystical Druid cult. In contrast to continental Celts, the Britons clung particularly long to chariot warfare, which instilled additional terror in their opponents. Known leaders such as Caratacus, Venutius, and Queen Boadicea led their resistance against Rome's advance with cunning and tenacity.

On the tabletop

Limed hair, woad markings and Battersea-style shields define these 40 ancient British warriors in plastic and metal. In Hail Caesar they form large tribal units that charge into close combat against the legions of the invasion from AD 43. The chieftain torso, carnyx and standards give the unit a leader and standards. Use them to start a British army under Caratacus or Boudicca, or to add to an existing Celtic army.
