The French infantry of the Hundred Years' War included a wide range - from simple mercenaries and city militias to crossbowmen and pikemen.

Background & context

Am 25. Oktober 1415 stand ein französisches Heer, das sich seiner Sache völlig sicher war, auf einem Acker bei Azincourt - frisch gepflügt, tagelang verregnet und viel zu schmal für die eigene Übermacht. Wer im Harnisch vorne mitlief, versank im Schlamm, während englische Langbogenschützen von den Flanken Salven in den Pulk setzten. Das französische Fußvolk dieser Jahre war eine Mischung aus Stadtmilizen, Söldnern und adligem Gefolge, und diese Vielfalt prägte auch die Feldzüge bis zum Vertrag von Troyes 1420.

On the tabletop

These 42 figures let you field the French foot soldiers of the Hundred Years' War from 1415 onward. The crossbowmen open the fight at range, while spearmen and men with two-handed axes form the body for close combat. The six dismounted knights, armed with sword, polearm or cut-down lance, serve as leaders or as a small elite detachment. Combined with the Agincourt Foot Knights, this grows into a French army facing an English line.
