    Hintergrund & Einordnung

African war elephants were mainly used by Carthage in the Punic Wars against Rome and were considered one of the most fearsome weapons of antiquity. Ptolemaic and Numidian forces also used these animals in battle. The smaller North African forest elephant species differed from the larger Indian elephants used by Alexander the Great and his successors. In battles such as Zama (202 BC), elephants played a crucial, though not always victorious, role. The model reflects the versatility of this unit in various ancient armies.

    Einsatz im Spiel

The African War Elephant is used in Hail Caesar and Clash of Spears as a war elephant for Carthaginian, Roman, Ptolemaic, and Numidian armies. In the game, the model generates shock value, threatens dense formations, and forces opponents into cautious deployment. It is most effective when infantry or light troops protect its flanks and the elephant is strategically deployed against critical sections.
