Background & context

The Achaeans, or Mycenaeans, ruled the early Aegean city-states from the Late Bronze Age to the end of the Bronze Age. As skirmishers, slingers were poorly equipped but useful support troops who, along with archers, provided the Mycenaean army's ranged combat capabilities. During the Trojan War, they played an important role in wearing down enemy units before decisive close combat.

On the tabletop

Small groups of poorly trained slingers went ahead of a Mycenaean army and, together with the archers, provided its long-range fighting. In Hail Caesar you field the eight metal figures in assorted poses as skirmishers that pelt the enemy with stones while he is still approaching. When close combat looms, they fall back behind the spearmen. They are a key part of the Mycenaean army list.
