Product details

Background & context

The Achaeans or Mycenaeans of the early Aegean city-states dominated the region from the Late Bronze Age until the end of the Bronze Age. As versatile fighters, Javelinmen could be deployed as light skirmishers and chariot runners, as well as medium infantry in the battle line. Alongside spearmen and the axe-wielding Royal Guard, they formed the backbone of Mycenaean armies, which rivaled the Hittites and the Egyptian New Kingdom.

On the tabletop

Achaean javelinmen with shields can serve as light infantry, skirmishers or runners beside the chariots. In Hail Caesar, however, you will mostly use the eight metal figures as medium infantry, bearing the brunt of the fighting alongside the spearmen and the axe-armed Royal Guard. They belong in the Mycenaean army list. Their period is the late Bronze Age, when the Achaeans dominated the Aegean alongside the Hittites and New Kingdom Egypt.
