Product details

Background & context

The British 8th Army was formed in Egypt in 1941 and became the melting pot of the Empire: Britons, Australians, New Zealanders, Indians, South Africans and Free French served in its ranks. The officer corps traditionally came from the upper and middle classes, and in the expanse of the Western Desert a great deal hung on the resolve of individual platoon commanders, because water, fuel and ammunition had to be brought up over hundreds of kilometres. Under Montgomery the army turned the tide at El Alamein.

On the tabletop

In the Western Desert a great deal depended on good platoon leaders, and Bolt Action is no different. The four 8th Army officers in tropical kit lead your platoons in the desert war. They give you commanders for a rifle platoon, an artillery platoon, a recce platoon and a heavy weapons platoon. Close to his squads, each officer issues orders and holds the platoon together. They suit British troops as well as units from Australia, New Zealand or India.
