This Rubicon plastic kit builds a 28mm Soviet PT-76 or PT-76B. It contains 120 parts on three sprues with a waterline option, two muzzle brakes, an optional DShK 1938 HMG, movable trim vane, hydrojet exhausts, and crew.

Background & context

The PT-76 was a Soviet amphibious light tank that was introduced in the early 1950s. It became the standard reconnaissance tank of the Soviet Army and other Warsaw Pact armed forces and was also used in fire support roles. Its amphibious capability was central for reconnaissance units and water obstacles. The PT-76B was introduced in 1959 and brought, among other things, a stabilized D-56TS gun and CBRN protection.

On the tabletop

The PT-76 is the amphibious reconnaissance tank of the Soviet Army and the Warsaw Pact, crossing rivers without preparation and scouting ahead of the main force. With its light armour you avoid duels with main battle tanks and use it for reconnaissance and fire support. You build it as a PT-76 or as the PT-76B with its stabilised gun, with one of two muzzle brakes and, if you like, a DShK machine gun. The waterline version with the trim vane extended shows it afloat.
