Product details

Background & context

The M102 reached the US Army in 1964 and replaced the heavier M101. Its welded aluminium carriage was light enough for a UH-1 to fly the howitzer as an underslung load. On a base plate it traversed a full 360 degrees, and in a firebase in the middle of the jungle that was decisive. Beyond Vietnam it went on to serve in the Gulf and in Iraq before the M119 replaced it.

On the tabletop

The M102 lets you field American field artillery for Vietnam War games. The light howitzer belongs in a firebase, from where it supports your infantry in the jungle and can fire in any direction. Because it could be moved by helicopter, it also suits scenarios with airmobile troops. You build it in travelling or firing position, and four gunners in Vietnam-era kit as well as ammunition and stowage are included.
